How to Permanently Kill Bradford Pear and Other Invasive Species Tree Suckers in Your Yard

Bradford Pear, Locust, and some other species of trees can cause tiny little sucker growths to come up all around the tree.  They can be nearly impossible to kill for good unless you know exactly what you are doing.  This article will include some simple steps to get rid of these annoying suckers for good.  You’re about to finally get your yard back.

The first few things to do is to cut the culprit tree down.  Once the top of the tree stump is exposed paint (soak) outer growth rings of the stump with Glyphosate or Triclopyr.  Cut all the suckers and soak exposed wood with the same chosen herbicide as what you applied on stump.  Repeat this process once a day for 5-7 days.  Give Herbicide another a few weeks to set in stump.  It may be a good idea to not cut a few sucker growths when soaking with Herbicide to tell when stump and roots are completely dead.

The last thing to do is hire a stump removal company to completely remove the stump and all roots possible.  Once the stump and roots are dead it is extra insurance to have stump and roots ground out.  Don’t remove first if possible because if just a few roots are left behind after stump removal suckers can grow back after the stump grinding.  It is almost impossible to grind out every single root and it is unreasonable to expect your contractor to do so.

If you do the steps above there is no chance suckers will regrow and you can finally have your yard back.  If you have been battling tree suckers coming up in your yard for a while you know these things can be nearly impossible to keep from coming up.  Please let us know how this method has worked for you and if you have anything to add.
